Cost

The costs of the Japanese’s brutal attack on Nanking were horrible. The countries were war-torn and trying to get back on their feet, while reaching an agreement. Many lives were lost for all China, Japan, and even the USA. “After the war, many Japanese were charged with war crimes and punished for the massacre after Chinese military trials were held.” (Cook).  They were punished harshly and some were executed. “The International Military Tribunal for the Far East sentenced the Japanese commander at Nanking, General Matsui Iwane, to death.” (Cook). The USA had lost many innocent lives to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, another attack from Japan. Japan and the USA couldn’t reach a peace agreement. Though, they say the “Japanese Government has always maintained an attitude of fairness and moderation” (ABC-CLIO) from the beginning of the negotiation.
